Troubleshooting Problems Opening TPP Files

Typical TPP Opening Challenges

FLAMES Isn't There

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open TPP Files" when trying to open your TPP. When this happens, it is commonly due to FLAMES missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your TPP because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your TPP, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Wrong Version of FLAMES is Installed

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of FLAMES installed that's incompatible with your FLAMES GUI Template File type. If you've got the wrong version of FLAMES installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of TPP file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Summary: Not having the right FLAMES version on your computer can cause problems opening TPP files.

Associated Difficulties Loading TPP Files

Assuming you have the right FLAMES version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening TPP files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening TPP files. Additional factors include:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for TPP are wrong
  • Unintentional removal of the description of the TPP file inside the Windows Registry
  • Defective install of a TPP program, such as FLAMES
  • Your TPP can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • The TPP is infected with a virus
  • Hardware related to TPPs has device driver corruption
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your FLAMES GUI Template File file
