Understanding ABF Issues
Common ABF Opening Problems
Microsoft Windows Font Viewer Disappeared
Double-clicking your ABF file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open ABF File". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Windows Font Viewer missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your ABF file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your ABF file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Windows Font Viewer
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows Font Viewer won't support your Adobe Binary Screen Font File file. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Windows Font Viewer from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of ABF file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Conclusion: The majority of ABF file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Windows Font Viewer version installed.
Other ABF File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Windows Font Viewer installed, you can still experience difficulties opening ABFs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening ABFs. Additional factors include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for ABF
- Deletion of the ABF file description from the Registry by mistake
- Microsoft Windows Font Viewer or another ABF application experienced a flawed installation
- File corruption affecting your ABF file
- The ABF is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your ABF file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Adobe Binary Screen Font File file successfully
