Understanding ACCDR Issues

Typical ACCDR Opening Challenges

Microsoft Access Isn't There

Double-clicking your ACCDR file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open ACCDR File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Access isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your ACCDR because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens ACCDR files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Obsolete Version of Microsoft Access

It is possible that your version of Microsoft Access isn't able to open your Access Runtime Application file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Access (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Most of the time your Access Runtime Application file was created by a newer Microsoft Access than what you have installed.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the ACCDR file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening ACCDR files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Other ACCDR File Issues

You can still experience errors opening ACCDR files even with the latest version of Microsoft Access installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading ACCDR files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:

  • ACCDR file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • Deletion of the ACCDR file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Partial installation of Microsoft Access that did not fully complete
  • The ACCDR itself is corrupted
  • ACCDR file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Hardware associated with ACCDR has outdated drivers
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open Access Runtime Application files
