Sources of ACG Problems
Issues Opening ACG Files
Audio Comparer Isn't There
Double-clicking your ACG file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open ACG File". Customarily, this means that Audio Comparer is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your ACG because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When another ACG application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of Audio Comparer is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Audio Comparer won't support your Audio Comparer Group File file. If you do not have the proper version Audio Comparer (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Most of the time your Audio Comparer Group File file was created by a newer Audio Comparer than what you have installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your ACG file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening ACG files are due to having the wrong version of Audio Comparer installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening ACGs
Assuming you have the right Audio Comparer version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening ACG files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading ACG files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:
- File references in the Windows Registry for ACG are wrong
- The ACG file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a ACG-associated program (eg. Audio Comparer)
- Something has caused file corruption of your ACG
- Your ACG has adversely impacted by malware
- Drivers associated with ACG software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your Audio Comparer Group File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
