ACW File Complications
Common ACW Opening Problems
Microsoft Windows Accessibility Wizard Removed
If you attempt to load your ACW file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open ACW Files". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Windows Accessibility Wizard is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ACW, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Windows Accessibility Wizard is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft Windows Accessibility Wizard installed that's incompatible with your Windows Accessibility Wizard File type. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Windows Accessibility Wizard if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Windows Accessibility Wizard File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Windows Accessibility Wizard than what's installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your ACW file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Windows Accessibility Wizard version on your computer can cause problems opening ACW files.
Other ACW File Issues
You can still experience errors opening ACW files even with the latest version of Microsoft Windows Accessibility Wizard installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening ACWs. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid ACW file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the ACW file inside the Windows Registry
- Microsoft Windows Accessibility Wizard or another ACW application experienced a flawed installation
- Your ACW file is corrupted (issues with your Windows Accessibility Wizard File file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your ACW
- Hardware associated with ACW has outdated drivers
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Windows Accessibility Wizard File file
