Understanding AGE3REC Issues
Common AGE3REC Opening Problems
Age of Empires III Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open AGE3REC Files" when trying to open your AGE3REC. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Age of Empires III isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your AGE3REC with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another AGE3REC application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Outdated Age of Empires III
It is possible that your version of Age of Empires III isn't able to open your Age Of Empires 3 Recording file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Age of Empires III version from the Ensemble Studios website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Age Of Empires 3 Recording file was created by a different (newer) version of Age of Empires III than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your AGE3REC, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening AGE3REC files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional AGE3REC Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Age of Empires III will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening AGE3RECs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for AGE3REC
- Corruption of the AGE3REC file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a AGE3REC program, such as Age of Empires III
- Your AGE3REC file is corrupted (issues with your Age Of Empires 3 Recording file itself)
- Your AGE3REC has adversely impacted by malware
- Drivers associated with AGE3REC software need to be updated
