Sources of ALD Problems
Typical ALD Opening Challenges
Microsoft Dynamics AX is Not Installed
When you double-click your ALD file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Dynamics AX for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your ALD with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another ALD application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Microsoft Dynamics AX Requires Update
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Dynamics AX isn't able to open your Dynamics AX Application Label Data File file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Dynamics AX from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your Dynamics AX Application Label Data File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Dynamics AX than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your ALD file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the ALD file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Dynamics AX installed.
Other ALD File Issues
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Dynamics AX version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening ALD files. Other ALD opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:
- ALD file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Accidental deletion of the description of the ALD file in the Windows registry
- Defective install of a ALD program, such as Microsoft Dynamics AX
- Something has caused file corruption of your ALD
- Malware-tainted ALD file can't be opened
- ALD-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your Dynamics AX Application Label Data File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
