Understanding ALI Issues
Troubles Opening ALI Files
Microsoft Dynamics AX Removed
You attempt to load your ALI file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The ALI File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Dynamics AX missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your ALI with Microsoft Dynamics AX, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ALI, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Dynamics AX
Your Dynamics AX Label Index File file is incompatible with Microsoft Dynamics AX because you might have the wrong version installed. Download the latest Microsoft Dynamics AX version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Dynamics AX Label Index File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Dynamics AX than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of ALI file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the ALI file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Dynamics AX installed.
Other ALI File Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Dynamics AX installed, you can still experience difficulties opening ALIs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading ALI files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- File references in the Windows Registry for ALI are wrong
- Corruption of the ALI file description inside the Registry
- Partial installation of Microsoft Dynamics AX that did not fully complete
- Your ALI can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your ALI is infected with malware
- Hardware related to ALIs has device driver corruption
- Windows cannot load your Dynamics AX Label Index File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
