Troubleshooting Problems Opening ALX Files
Troubles Opening ALX Files
BlackBerry Desktop Software Removed
If you attempt to load your ALX file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open ALX Files". Customarily, this means that BlackBerry Desktop Software is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your ALX with BlackBerry Desktop Software, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When another ALX application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Incorrect BlackBerry Desktop Software Version
It is possible that your version of BlackBerry Desktop Software isn't able to open your BlackBerry Application Loader XML File file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version BlackBerry Desktop Software (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your ALX file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening ALX files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other ALX File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of BlackBerry Desktop Software installed, you can still experience difficulties opening ALXs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening ALX files. Other contributing causes:
- ALX file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Deletion of the ALX file description from the Registry by mistake
- BlackBerry Desktop Software or another ALX application experienced a flawed installation
- Something has caused file corruption of your ALX
- Your ALX has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with ALX has outdated drivers
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the BlackBerry Application Loader XML File file
