Troubleshooting Problems Opening ASHX Files
Troubles Opening ASHX Files
LibreOffice Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open ASHX Files" when trying to open your ASHX. Usually, this is because you do not have LibreOffice for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ASHX, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated LibreOffice
Your ASP.NET Web Handler File file is incompatible with LibreOffice because you might have the wrong version installed. Download the latest LibreOffice version from the The Document Foundation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is predominately due to having a ASP.NET Web Handler File file version that was created by a newer version of LibreOffice than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your ASHX file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Regardless, most of the ASHX file opening problems relate to not having the right version of LibreOffice installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading ASHX Files
Assuming you have the right LibreOffice version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening ASHX files. If you are still having problems opening ASHX files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- ASHX file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the ASHX file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of LibreOffice or other ASHX-related program
- Your ASHX can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your ASHX has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to ASHXs has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the ASP.NET Web Handler File format
