AXC Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening AXC Files
Microsoft Dynamics AX Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open AXC Files" when trying to open your AXC. Customarily, this means that Microsoft Dynamics AX is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your AXC with Microsoft Dynamics AX, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your AXC file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Outdated Microsoft Dynamics AX
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Dynamics AX won't support your Microsoft Dynamics AX Configuration file. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Dynamics AX (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your Microsoft Dynamics AX Configuration file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Dynamics AX than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Investigate your AXC file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening AXC files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other Causes of AXC File Opening Problems
Errors opening Microsoft Dynamics AX Configuration files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft Dynamics AX software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening AXCs. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for AXC
- Accidental deletion of the description of the AXC file in the Windows registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the AXC format
- AXC file corruption
- Malware-tainted AXC file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your AXC file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Microsoft Dynamics AX Configuration file successfully
