AXE Troubleshooting
Common AXE Opening Problems
Microsoft AutoRoute is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your AXE file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open AXE Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft AutoRoute missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your AXE because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft AutoRoute installed, and you know of another program to open your AXE file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Microsoft AutoRoute Version
It is possible that your version of Microsoft AutoRoute isn't able to open your AutoRoute Map File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Microsoft AutoRoute. This issue mainly occurs when your AutoRoute Map File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft AutoRoute than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the AXE file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening AXE files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft AutoRoute installed on your computer.
Other Causes of AXE File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening AXE files even with the latest version of Microsoft AutoRoute installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading AXE files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- Invalid AXE file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the AXE file description from the Registry by mistake
- Defective install of a AXE program, such as Microsoft AutoRoute
- Something has caused file corruption of your AXE
- Past or present virus infection has affected your AXE
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your AXE file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your AutoRoute Map File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
