Understanding BAR Issues
Common BAR Opening Problems
Blackberry 10 is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open BAR Files" when trying to open your BAR. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Blackberry 10 isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your BAR with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your BAR file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Blackberry 10 is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Blackberry 10 installed that's incompatible with your BlackBerry OS 10 Application Installation Package type. Installing the latest version of Blackberry 10 from BlackBerry is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your BlackBerry OS 10 Application Installation Package file was created by a different (newer) version of Blackberry 10 than what's installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your BAR file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right Blackberry 10 version on your computer can cause problems opening BAR files.
Associated Difficulties Loading BAR Files
You can still experience errors opening BAR files even with the latest version of Blackberry 10 installed on your PC. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening BAR files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for BAR
- Unintentional removal of the description of the BAR file inside the Windows Registry
- Partial installation of Blackberry 10 that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your BAR file
- Malware-tainted BAR file can't be opened
- Device drivers for BAR-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open BlackBerry OS 10 Application Installation Package files
