Troubleshoot BDP Files
Common BDP Opening Problems
Microsoft Exchange Server Disappeared
If you attempt to load your BDP file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open BDP Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Exchange Server installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the BDP file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another BDP-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Exchange Server is Installed
In other instances, your Exchange Diagnostic Message file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Exchange Server. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Exchange Server (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Exchange Diagnostic Message file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Exchange Server than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your BDP file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening BDP files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Exchange Server installed.
Additional BDP Opening Issues
Although you might already have Microsoft Exchange Server or another BDP-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Exchange Diagnostic Message files. If you're still experiencing problems opening BDP files, there could be other computer problems. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid BDP file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Accidental deletion of the description of the BDP file in the Windows registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the BDP format
- Your BDP file is corrupted (issues with your Exchange Diagnostic Message file itself)
- Malware-tainted BDP file can't be opened
- Hardware related to BDPs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Exchange Diagnostic Message file
