Sources of BLF Problems
Typical BLF Opening Challenges
Microsoft Common Log File System (CLFS) Not Present
You attempt to load your BLF file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The BLF File Extension". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Common Log File System (CLFS) is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your BLF because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another BLF-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Common Log File System (CLFS)
In other instances, your CLFS Base Log File file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Common Log File System (CLFS). If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Common Log File System (CLFS) (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Most of the time your CLFS Base Log File file was created by a newer Microsoft Common Log File System (CLFS) than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your BLF, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Common Log File System (CLFS) version on your computer can cause problems opening BLF files.
Other Causes of BLF File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening BLF files even with the latest version of Microsoft Common Log File System (CLFS) installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading BLF files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for BLF
- Unintentional removal of the description of the BLF file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the BLF format
- File corruption affecting your BLF file
- The BLF is infected with a virus
- BLF-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the CLFS Base Log File format
