BLG File Complications

Frequent BLG Opening Issues

Windows Performance Monitor Isn't There

When you double-click your BLG file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Windows Performance Monitor for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your BLG with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your BLG, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Windows Performance Monitor is Out-of-Date

Sometimes your installed version of Windows Performance Monitor won't support your Windows Binary Performance Log File file. You will need to download a newer version of Windows Performance Monitor if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Windows Binary Performance Log File file was created by a newer Windows Performance Monitor than what you have installed.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your BLG file and clicking "Properties".

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening BLG files are due to having the wrong version of Windows Performance Monitor installed.

Additional BLG Opening Issues

Errors opening Windows Binary Performance Log File files can still occur even with the latest Windows Performance Monitor software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening BLGs. These issues include:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for BLG
  • The BLG file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Invalid installation of a BLG-associated program (eg. Windows Performance Monitor)
  • File corruption affecting your BLG file
  • Your BLG has adversely impacted by malware
  • BLG-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your Windows Binary Performance Log File file
