Understanding BPW Issues

Issues Opening BPW Files

Bitser Isn't There

Double-clicking your BPW file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open BPW File". Usually, this is because you do not have Bitser for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your BPW, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Obsolete Version of Bitser

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Bitser installed that's incompatible with your Bitser Password File type. If you do not have the proper version Bitser (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Right-clicking on your BPW, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening BPW files are due to having the wrong version of Bitser installed.

Associated Difficulties Loading BPW Files

Assuming you have the right Bitser version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening BPW files. If you're still experiencing problems opening BPW files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:

• BPW file type Registry entries are wrong
• The BPW file description within the Windows Registry was removed
• Corrupt install of Bitser or other BPW-related program
• File corruption affecting your BPW file
