Understanding CB Issues
Troubles Opening CB Files
Microsoft Windows Disappeared
Double-clicking your CB file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open CB File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Windows isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your CB with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Windows installed, and you know of another program to open your CB file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Microsoft Windows is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft Windows installed that's incompatible with your Microsoft Clean Boot File type. Download the latest Microsoft Windows version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your Microsoft Clean Boot File file was created by a newer Microsoft Windows than what you have installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your CB file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening CB files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading CB Files
You can still experience errors opening CB files even with the latest version of Microsoft Windows installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading CB files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- CB file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the CB file inside the Windows Registry
- Partial installation of Microsoft Windows that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your CB file
- The CB is infected with a virus
- Device drivers for CB-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Microsoft Clean Boot File file
