Troubleshoot COL Files
Common Problems Opening COL Files
BibExcel Disappeared
When trying to open your COL file, you get the error "Can't Open COL File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have BibExcel for %%os%% installed. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the COL file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When another COL application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
BibExcel is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your Bibexcel File file version may not be supported by your version of BibExcel. Installing the latest version of BibExcel from Open Source is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a Bibexcel File file version that was created by a newer version of BibExcel than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your COL file and clicking "Properties".
Primarily, problems experienced when opening COL files are due to having the incorrect version of BibExcel installed on your computer.
Other COL File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of BibExcel installed, you can still experience difficulties opening COLs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening COLs. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry COL file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry COL description
- BibExcel or another COL application experienced a flawed installation
- Your COL file is corrupted (issues with your Bibexcel File file itself)
- COL file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Drivers associated with COL software need to be updated
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Bibexcel File files
