Troubleshoot COVERAGE Files
Troubles Opening COVERAGE Files
Microsoft Visual Studio Removed
If you attempt to load your COVERAGE file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open COVERAGE Files". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Microsoft Visual Studio for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your COVERAGE because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens COVERAGE files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Incorrect Microsoft Visual Studio Version
In other instances, your Visual Studio Code Coverage Report file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Visual Studio. Download the latest Microsoft Visual Studio version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is predominately due to having a Visual Studio Code Coverage Report file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Visual Studio than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your COVERAGE file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening COVERAGE files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading COVERAGE Files
You can still experience errors opening COVERAGE files even with the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading COVERAGE files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- COVERAGE file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Deletion of the COVERAGE file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Microsoft Visual Studio that did not fully complete
- COVERAGE file corruption
- Your COVERAGE has adversely impacted by malware
- Drivers associated with COVERAGE software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your Visual Studio Code Coverage Report file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
