CRTX File Complications
Common CRTX Opening Problems
Microsoft Excel Isn't There
When trying to open your CRTX file, you get the error "Can't Open CRTX File Type". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Excel is not installed on %%os%%. The typical path of opening your CRTX with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another CRTX application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Excel is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft Excel installed that's incompatible with your Office 2007 Chart Template File type. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Excel if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your Office 2007 Chart Template File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Excel than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of CRTX file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening CRTX files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Excel installed.
Other CRTX File Issues
Although you might already have Microsoft Excel or another CRTX-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Office 2007 Chart Template File files. If you're still experiencing problems opening CRTX files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:
- Invalid CRTX file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- The CRTX file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a CRTX-associated program (eg. Microsoft Excel)
- Your CRTX file is corrupted (issues with your Office 2007 Chart Template File file itself)
- Malware-tainted CRTX file can't be opened
- Device drivers for CRTX-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Office 2007 Chart Template File files
