Troubleshoot CSX Files
Frequent CSX Opening Issues
Notepad++ Not Present
If you attempt to load your CSX file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open CSX Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to Notepad++ missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your CSX with Notepad++, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Notepad++ installed, and you know of another program to open your CSX file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Notepad++ Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Visual C# Script file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Notepad++ (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a Visual C# Script file version that was created by a newer version of Notepad++ than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the CSX file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening CSX files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening CSXs
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Notepad++ will resolve your issue. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening CSX files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry CSX file paths that are incorrect
- Unintentional removal of the description of the CSX file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the CSX format
- File corruption affecting your CSX file
- Malware-tainted CSX file can't be opened
- Device drivers for CSX-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Visual C# Script files
