Troubleshoot DA2 Files
Frequent DA2 Opening Issues
Windows Media Center Removed
Double-clicking your DA2 file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open DA2 File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Windows Media Center isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your DA2 with Windows Media Center, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Windows Media Center installed, and you know of another program to open your DA2 file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Windows Media Center Version
It is possible that your version of Windows Media Center isn't able to open your Windows Dancer File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Windows Media Center version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Windows Dancer File file was created by a different (newer) version of Windows Media Center than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your DA2 file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening DA2 files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other DA2 File Issues
Errors opening Windows Dancer File files can still occur even with the latest Windows Media Center software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening DA2 files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- DA2 file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry DA2 description
- Partial installation of Windows Media Center that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your DA2 file
- Your DA2 is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with DA2 has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Windows Dancer File format
