Troubleshoot DATASOURCE Files
Common Problems Opening DATASOURCE Files
Microsoft Visual Studio Isn't There
When you double-click your DATASOURCE file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Visual Studio is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your DATASOURCE with Microsoft Visual Studio, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens DATASOURCE files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Visual Studio
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Visual Studio isn't able to open your Microsoft Visual Studio Data Source file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a Microsoft Visual Studio Data Source file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Visual Studio than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of DATASOURCE file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening DATASOURCE files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed.
Additional DATASOURCE Opening Issues
Although you might already have Microsoft Visual Studio or another DATASOURCE-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Microsoft Visual Studio Data Source files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening DATASOURCEs. Other contributing causes:
- DATASOURCE file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the DATASOURCE file inside the Windows Registry
- Microsoft Visual Studio or another DATASOURCE application experienced a flawed installation
- The DATASOURCE itself is corrupted
- The DATASOURCE is infected with a virus
- Drivers associated with DATASOURCE software need to be updated
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Microsoft Visual Studio Data Source files
