DESIGN File Complications
Frequent DESIGN Opening Issues
Microsoft Expression Studio Isn't There
You attempt to load your DESIGN file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The DESIGN File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Expression Studio for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your DESIGN file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another DESIGN-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated Microsoft Expression Studio
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Expression Studio isn't able to open your Microsoft Expression Design Drawing file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Expression Studio if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Microsoft Expression Design Drawing file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Expression Studio than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the DESIGN file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening DESIGN files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Expression Studio installed.
Additional DESIGN Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Expression Studio installed, you can still experience difficulties opening DESIGNs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading DESIGN files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid DESIGN file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry DESIGN description
- Partial installation of Microsoft Expression Studio that did not fully complete
- DESIGN file corruption
- Your DESIGN is infected with malware
- Hardware related to DESIGNs has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Microsoft Expression Design Drawing format
