DIP Troubleshooting

Common DIP Opening Problems

Microsoft Windows Not Present

You attempt to load your DIP file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The DIP File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Windows for %%os%% installed. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the DIP file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: If you know of another program that can open your DIP file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.

Microsoft Windows is Out-of-Date

It is possible that your version of Microsoft Windows isn't able to open your Windows Bitmap Format file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Windows (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Most of the time your Windows Bitmap Format file was created by a newer Microsoft Windows than what you have installed.

Tip: If you right-click on your DIP file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening DIP files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Other DIP File Issues

Assuming you have the right Microsoft Windows version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening DIP files. If you're still experiencing problems opening DIP files, there could be other computer problems. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for DIP
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry DIP description
  • Microsoft Windows or another DIP application experienced a flawed installation
  • Your DIP file is corrupted (issues with your Windows Bitmap Format file itself)
  • DIP file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Hardware related to DIPs has device driver corruption
  • Windows cannot load your Windows Bitmap Format file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
