DOCXML File Complications
Typical DOCXML Opening Challenges
Missing Microsoft Word 2016
Double-clicking your DOCXML file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open DOCXML File". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Word 2016 for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your DOCXML file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your DOCXML, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Word 2016 is Out-of-Date
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Word 2016 won't support your Microsoft Word XML Document file. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Word 2016 (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Microsoft Word XML Document file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Word 2016 than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your DOCXML file and clicking "Properties".
Primarily, problems experienced when opening DOCXML files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Word 2016 installed on your computer.
Additional DOCXML Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Word 2016 version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening DOCXML files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening DOCXMLs. Other contributing causes:
- DOCXML file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Deletion of the DOCXML file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a DOCXML-associated program (eg. Microsoft Word 2016)
- The DOCXML itself is corrupted
- DOCXML file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers for DOCXML-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Microsoft Word XML Document file
