DZI File Complications
Issues Opening DZI Files
Missing Microsoft PhotoSynth
Double-clicking your DZI file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open DZI File". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft PhotoSynth for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your DZI with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another DZI application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Outdated Microsoft PhotoSynth
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a PhotoSynth Deep Zoom Image File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest Microsoft PhotoSynth version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your PhotoSynth Deep Zoom Image File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft PhotoSynth than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of DZI file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening DZI files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional DZI Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft PhotoSynth installed, you can still experience difficulties opening DZIs. If you are still having problems opening DZI files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid DZI file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry DZI description
- Partial installation of Microsoft PhotoSynth that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your DZI file
- Your DZI has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with DZI has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your PhotoSynth Deep Zoom Image File file successfully
