Understanding EMAIL Issues
Common Problems Opening EMAIL Files
Microsoft Outlook Express Disappeared
You attempt to load your EMAIL file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The EMAIL File Extension". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Outlook Express is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the EMAIL file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Outlook Express installed, and you know of another program to open your EMAIL file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Outlook Express
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Outlook Express Email Message file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Outlook Express if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your EMAIL file and clicking "Properties".
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening EMAIL files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Outlook Express installed.
Additional EMAIL Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Outlook Express version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening EMAIL files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading EMAIL files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for EMAIL
- Corruption of the EMAIL file description inside the Registry
- Invalid installation of a EMAIL-associated program (eg. Microsoft Outlook Express)
- Your EMAIL can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your EMAIL is infected with malware
- EMAIL-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Outlook Express Email Message files
