EPRTX Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening EPRTX Files
Microsoft XPS Viewer Isn't There
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open EPRTX Files" when trying to open your EPRTX. Customarily, this means that Microsoft XPS Viewer is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your EPRTX file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft XPS Viewer installed, and you know of another program to open your EPRTX file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Microsoft XPS Viewer is Installed
It is possible that your version of Microsoft XPS Viewer isn't able to open your Microsoft XPS Document Related File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Microsoft XPS Viewer version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your Microsoft XPS Document Related File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft XPS Viewer than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your EPRTX file and clicking "Properties".
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening EPRTX files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft XPS Viewer installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading EPRTX Files
Assuming you have the right Microsoft XPS Viewer version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening EPRTX files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening EPRTX files. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid EPRTX file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the EPRTX file inside the Windows Registry
- Invalid installation of a EPRTX-associated program (eg. Microsoft XPS Viewer)
- The EPRTX itself is corrupted
- Your EPRTX has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your EPRTX file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Microsoft XPS Document Related File file successfully
