ERP File Complications

Typical ERP Opening Challenges

Alter Ego is Not Installed

When you double-click your ERP file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Alter Ego installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your ERP with Alter Ego, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: Another ERP-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Alter Ego Requires Update

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Alter Ego Game Archive file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Alter Ego (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your Alter Ego Game Archive file was probably created by a newer release of Alter Ego than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: Investigate your ERP file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Summary: Not having the right Alter Ego version on your computer can cause problems opening ERP files.

Other Causes of ERP File Opening Problems

Although you might already have Alter Ego or another ERP-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Alter Ego Game Archive files. If you are still having problems opening ERP files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:

  • Windows Registry ERP file paths that are incorrect
  • Corruption of the ERP file description inside the Registry
  • Defective install of a ERP program, such as Alter Ego
  • The ERP itself is corrupted
  • The ERP is infected with a virus
  • Hardware related to ERPs has device driver corruption
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your Alter Ego Game Archive file
