FAV File Complications
Common FAV Opening Problems
Microsoft Outlook Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open FAV Files" when trying to open your FAV. If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Outlook installed for %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens FAV files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Outlook is Installed
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Outlook isn't able to open your Microsoft Outlook Bar-Shortcut file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Outlook (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. The primary cause of this problem is that your Microsoft Outlook Bar-Shortcut file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Outlook than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the FAV file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Outlook version on your computer can cause problems opening FAV files.
Additional FAV Opening Issues
You can still experience errors opening FAV files even with the latest version of Microsoft Outlook installed on your PC. Other FAV opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:
- Windows Registry FAV file paths that are incorrect
- Corruption of the FAV file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a FAV program, such as Microsoft Outlook
- Your FAV file is corrupted (issues with your Microsoft Outlook Bar-Shortcut file itself)
- Your FAV is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with FAV has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Microsoft Outlook Bar-Shortcut format
