Troubleshoot FKY Files
Issues Opening FKY Files
Microsoft Visual FoxPro Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open FKY Files" when trying to open your FKY. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Microsoft Visual FoxPro for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your FKY with Microsoft Visual FoxPro, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Visual FoxPro installed, and you know of another program to open your FKY file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro is Installed
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro isn't able to open your FoxPro Macro file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Visual FoxPro (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your FKY, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Conclusion: The majority of FKY file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Visual FoxPro version installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading FKY Files
You can still experience errors opening FKY files even with the latest version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro installed on your PC. Other FKY opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:
- Invalid FKY file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the FKY file description from the Registry by mistake
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the FKY format
- File corruption affecting your FKY file
- Your FKY is infected with malware
- Drivers associated with FKY software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your FoxPro Macro file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
