Troubleshooting Problems Opening FLD Files
Issues Opening FLD Files
YSFlight Not Present
Double-clicking your FLD file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open FLD File". Usually, this is because you do not have YSFlight for %%os%% installed. You won't be able to double-click to open your FLD because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you don't have YSFlight installed, and you know of another program to open your FLD file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect YSFlight Version
Your YSFLIGHT Field File file is incompatible with YSFlight because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of YSFlight. Most of the time your YSFLIGHT Field File file was created by a newer YSFlight than what you have installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your FLD file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right YSFlight version on your computer can cause problems opening FLD files.
Associated Difficulties Loading FLD Files
Assuming you have the right YSFlight version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening FLD files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening FLDs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry FLD file paths that are incorrect
- The FLD file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Corrupt install of YSFlight or other FLD-related program
- Something has caused file corruption of your FLD
- The FLD is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your FLD file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your YSFLIGHT Field File file successfully
