FOB File Complications
Common FOB Opening Problems
Missing Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision)
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open FOB Files" when trying to open your FOB. When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your FOB with Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision), so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another FOB-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision)
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) isn't able to open your Dynamics NAV Object Container File file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a Dynamics NAV Object Container File file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your FOB file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening FOB files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading FOB Files
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) installed, you can still experience difficulties opening FOBs. If you're still experiencing problems opening FOB files, there could be other computer problems. Issues that aren't software-related:
- FOB file type Registry entries are wrong
- The FOB file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a FOB-associated program (eg. Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision))
- The FOB itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your FOB
- Device drivers for FOB-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Dynamics NAV Object Container File file
