Troubleshooting Problems Opening FOLDER Files
Common FOLDER Opening Problems
Microsoft Windows Removed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open FOLDER Files" when trying to open your FOLDER. Customarily, this means that Microsoft Windows is not installed on %%os%%. The typical path of opening your FOLDER with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Windows installed, and you know of another program to open your FOLDER file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Windows
In other instances, your Microsoft Windows Explorer Folder File file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Windows. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Windows from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. Most of the time your Microsoft Windows Explorer Folder File file was created by a newer Microsoft Windows than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your FOLDER, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening FOLDER files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional FOLDER Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Windows version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening FOLDER files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading FOLDER files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry FOLDER file paths that are incorrect
- The FOLDER file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the FOLDER format
- Your FOLDER file is corrupted (issues with your Microsoft Windows Explorer Folder File file itself)
- Malware-tainted FOLDER file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your FOLDER file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your Microsoft Windows Explorer Folder File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
