Understanding FPC Issues

Typical FPC Opening Challenges

Microsoft Visual FoxPro Removed

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open FPC Files" when trying to open your FPC. When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Visual FoxPro missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your FPC because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: Another FPC-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Microsoft Visual FoxPro Requires Update

Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro won't support your FoxPro Catalog Memo file. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your FoxPro Catalog Memo file was created by a newer Microsoft Visual FoxPro than what you have installed.

Tip: Investigate your FPC file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Regardless, most of the FPC file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro installed.

Additional FPC Opening Issues

Although you might already have Microsoft Visual FoxPro or another FPC-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening FoxPro Catalog Memo files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening FPCs. Problems unrelated to software:

  • Windows Registry FPC file paths that are incorrect
  • Deletion of the FPC file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the FPC format
  • The FPC itself is corrupted
  • Your FPC is infected with malware
  • Hardware associated with FPC has outdated drivers
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your FoxPro Catalog Memo file successfully
