FPT Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening FPT Files
Act! Removed
When trying to open your FPT file, you get the error "Can't Open FPT File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Act! for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your FPT with Act!, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another FPT-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated Act!
Your ACT! Data File file is incompatible with Act! because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Act! if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your ACT! Data File file was created by a newer version of Act! than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of FPT file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the FPT file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Act! installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading FPT Files
Although you might already have Act! or another FPT-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening ACT! Data File files. Other FPT opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry FPT file paths that are incorrect
- The FPT file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Defective install of a FPT program, such as Act!
- File corruption affecting your FPT file
- Your FPT is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with FPT has outdated drivers
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open ACT! Data File files
