Sources of GADGET Problems
Typical GADGET Opening Challenges
Microsoft Windows Removed
Double-clicking your GADGET file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open GADGET File". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Windows missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your GADGET file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your GADGET, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Microsoft Windows
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Windows Gadget file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Windows from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. Your Windows Gadget file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Windows than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your GADGET file and clicking "Properties".
Primarily, problems experienced when opening GADGET files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Windows installed on your computer.
Other GADGET File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening GADGET files even with the latest version of Microsoft Windows installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening GADGETs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- GADGET file type Registry entries are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry GADGET description
- Invalid installation of a GADGET-associated program (eg. Microsoft Windows)
- Your GADGET file is corrupted (issues with your Windows Gadget file itself)
- Malware-tainted GADGET file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with GADGET has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Windows Gadget file successfully
