Troubleshoot GIX Files
Frequent GIX Opening Issues
Microsoft PowerPoint Not Present
You attempt to load your GIX file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The GIX File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft PowerPoint missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the GIX file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another GIX-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Microsoft PowerPoint Requires Update
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft PowerPoint installed that's incompatible with your Genigraphics Graphics Link Presentation File type. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft PowerPoint (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your Genigraphics Graphics Link Presentation File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft PowerPoint than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your GIX, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening GIX files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading GIX Files
Although you might already have Microsoft PowerPoint or another GIX-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Genigraphics Graphics Link Presentation File files. Other GIX opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry GIX file paths that are incorrect
- The GIX file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Partial installation of Microsoft PowerPoint that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your GIX
- Malware-tainted GIX file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with GIX has outdated drivers
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Genigraphics Graphics Link Presentation File files
