Troubleshooting Problems Opening GMMP Files
Troubles Opening GMMP Files
Microsoft Windows Isn't There
When you double-click your GMMP file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Windows missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your GMMP file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Windows installed, and you know of another program to open your GMMP file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Microsoft Windows
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows won't support your WCS Gamut Map Model Profile file. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Windows installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your WCS Gamut Map Model Profile file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Windows than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Investigate your GMMP file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of GMMP file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Windows version installed.
Additional GMMP Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Windows installed, you can still experience difficulties opening GMMPs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading GMMP files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for GMMP are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry GMMP description
- Partial installation of Microsoft Windows that did not fully complete
- GMMP file corruption
- GMMP file integrity has been compromised by malware
- GMMP-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the WCS Gamut Map Model Profile file
