Troubleshoot GNA Files
Common Problems Opening GNA Files
Microsoft PowerPoint Not Present
Double-clicking your GNA file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open GNA File". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft PowerPoint installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the GNA file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another GNA-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft PowerPoint
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Genigraphics Graphics Link Presentation File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft PowerPoint installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your Genigraphics Graphics Link Presentation File file was created by a newer Microsoft PowerPoint than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your GNA, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the GNA file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft PowerPoint installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening GNAs
Errors opening Genigraphics Graphics Link Presentation File files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft PowerPoint software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening GNAs. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid GNA file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- The GNA file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Partial installation of Microsoft PowerPoint that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your GNA
- Past or present virus infection has affected your GNA
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your GNA file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Genigraphics Graphics Link Presentation File file successfully
