Sources of GNX Problems
Issues Opening GNX Files
Microsoft PowerPoint Isn't There
You attempt to load your GNX file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The GNX File Extension". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft PowerPoint installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your GNX file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your GNX file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Microsoft PowerPoint is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft PowerPoint installed that's incompatible with your Microsoft PowerPoint Data type. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft PowerPoint if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Microsoft PowerPoint Data file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft PowerPoint than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your GNX, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening GNX files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft PowerPoint installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening GNXs
Even with the correct version of Microsoft PowerPoint installed, you can still experience difficulties opening GNXs. If you're still experiencing problems opening GNX files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:
- GNX file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Corruption of the GNX file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a GNX program, such as Microsoft PowerPoint
- Something has caused file corruption of your GNX
- Your GNX has adversely impacted by malware
- GNX-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Microsoft PowerPoint Data files
