Troubleshooting Problems Opening GRB Files
Typical GRB Opening Challenges
Missing MS-DOS
If you attempt to load your GRB file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open GRB Files". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have MS-DOS for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your GRB file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your GRB file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Obsolete Version of MS-DOS
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of MS-DOS installed that's incompatible with your MS-DOS Shell Monitor Data type. You will need to download a newer version of MS-DOS if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a MS-DOS Shell Monitor Data file version that was created by a newer version of MS-DOS than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the GRB file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right MS-DOS version on your computer can cause problems opening GRB files.
Additional GRB Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of MS-DOS will resolve your issue. If you're still experiencing problems opening GRB files, there could be other computer problems. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid GRB file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the GRB file description inside the Registry
- Partial installation of MS-DOS that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your GRB file
- GRB file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Drivers associated with GRB software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your MS-DOS Shell Monitor Data file
