Understanding HAZ Issues
Typical HAZ Opening Challenges
Microsoft Flight Simulator Not Present
When trying to open your HAZ file, you get the error "Can't Open HAZ File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Flight Simulator missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your HAZ file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Microsoft Flight Simulator Requires Update
In other instances, your Microsoft Flight Simulator Texture File file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Flight Simulator if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Microsoft Flight Simulator Texture File file was created by a newer Microsoft Flight Simulator than what you have installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the HAZ file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening HAZ files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Flight Simulator installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening HAZs
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Flight Simulator version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening HAZ files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading HAZ files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- Invalid HAZ file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the HAZ file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the HAZ format
- Your HAZ file is corrupted (issues with your Microsoft Flight Simulator Texture File file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your HAZ
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your HAZ file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Microsoft Flight Simulator Texture File file
