Troubleshooting Problems Opening HTA Files

Typical HTA Opening Challenges

Internet Explorer Disappeared

If you attempt to load your HTA file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open HTA Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Internet Explorer isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your HTA with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: If you know of another program that can open your HTA file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.

Wrong Version of Internet Explorer is Installed

In other instances, your HTML Application file version may not be supported by your version of Internet Explorer. Download the latest Internet Explorer version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your HTML Application file was created by a newer version of Internet Explorer than you have on your PC.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your HTA file and clicking "Properties".
