Understanding HTT Issues
Issues Opening HTT Files
Microsoft Windows is Not Installed
When you double-click your HTT file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Windows is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Windows installed, and you know of another program to open your HTT file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Microsoft Windows
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Windows isn't able to open your Hypertext Template File file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Windows (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: If you right-click on your HTT file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of HTT file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Windows version installed.
Additional HTT Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft Windows will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading HTT files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid HTT file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- The HTT file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the HTT format
- Your HTT can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted HTT file can't be opened
- Drivers associated with HTT software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Hypertext Template File file
