Sources of HTW Problems
Common Problems Opening HTW Files
Microsoft IIS is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your HTW file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open HTW Files". Customarily, this means that Microsoft IIS is not installed on %%os%%. The typical path of opening your HTW with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another HTW application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Incorrect Microsoft IIS Version
It is possible that your version of Microsoft IIS isn't able to open your IIS Webhits Template file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft IIS if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a IIS Webhits Template file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft IIS than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the HTW file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening HTW files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft IIS installed.
Other HTW File Issues
Errors opening IIS Webhits Template files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft IIS software installed on your computer. If you are continuing to have errors with loading HTW files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for HTW
- Deletion of the HTW file description from the Registry by mistake
- Microsoft IIS or another HTW application experienced a flawed installation
- Something has caused file corruption of your HTW
- The HTW is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to HTWs has device driver corruption
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your IIS Webhits Template file successfully
