Sources of IAF Problems
Issues Opening IAF Files
Microsoft Outlook 2016 Disappeared
Double-clicking your IAF file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open IAF File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Outlook 2016 isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the IAF file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Outlook 2016 installed, and you know of another program to open your IAF file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Microsoft Outlook 2016
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Outlook 2016 won't support your Outlook Internet Account File file. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Outlook 2016 installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your Outlook Internet Account File file was created by a newer Microsoft Outlook 2016 than what you have installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your IAF file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Outlook 2016 version on your computer can cause problems opening IAF files.
Other IAF File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Outlook 2016 installed, you can still experience difficulties opening IAFs. If you are still having problems opening IAF files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for IAF
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry IAF description
- Invalid installation of a IAF-associated program (eg. Microsoft Outlook 2016)
- IAF file corruption
- IAF file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your IAF file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your Outlook Internet Account File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
