IKL File Complications
Troubles Opening IKL Files
InkBall Isn't There
Double-clicking your IKL file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open IKL File". Customarily, this means that InkBall is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your IKL file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your IKL file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect InkBall Version
It is possible that your version of InkBall isn't able to open your InkBall Game Data file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of InkBall installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your InkBall Game Data file was probably created by a newer release of InkBall than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: If you right-click on your IKL file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of IKL file opening issues are due to not having the correct InkBall version installed.
Other Causes of IKL File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening IKL files even with the latest version of InkBall installed on your PC. If you are still having problems opening IKL files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid IKL file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the IKL file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of InkBall or other IKL-related program
- File corruption affecting your IKL file
- The IKL is infected with a virus
- Drivers associated with IKL software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your InkBall Game Data file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
